About the Program: The Stanford Riding Club offers
mature riders the chance to learn, ride, and interact with fellow horsemen in a group lesson
setting. Started by Meg in 2005, it has quickly become a permanent part of the
Stanford Red Barn. Lessons are
taught on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings by Meg, and there is an alumni class (you can be an
alumnus from ANY college/university) run on Thursday evenings by Stanford Coach Jen Henderson.
Adult group classes run each week on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, from 6:30-7:30pm. Riders
should arrive a half hour early to groom and tack up. Costs are as follows with discounts to
Stanford students, alumni and faculty, open to all members of the community. Riders will groom
and tack up the horses (tack and horses are provided by the University) with approximately one
hour of "on the horse" instruction. The classes teach English riding, with fun and varied
exercises for riders of all ages and levels. A great way to unwind after a hard day of work!
Perfect for riders returning to the saddle after a hiatus or for those who have had limited
formal instruction.
Tuesday classes: Beginning Jumping. Geared towards
walk/trot/canter riders. Lots of flat work and work over ground poles and cavalletti. This
class has begun small jumps and courses over x-rails. Classes are held every Tuesday,
6:30-7:30pm.
Wednesday classes: Intermediate Jumping. Geared
towards riders who are solid on the flat and have previous jumping experience. Jumping 2’3-2’6”
courses and more advanced flat work. Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30pm.
Eventing Course: Coming soon. Please
contact Meg for more information. This class will
focus on four training methods used for eventing. Dressage, jumping courses, pace/conditioning
work, and grid-work, rotating every week. Look for this class to begin in July!
